Australian libraries are backing Dr. Alan Finkel, Australia’s Chief Scientist, in his Storytime Pledge which promotes the importance of reading to children to improve literacy and concentration, boost creativity, and develop skills of reasoning and pattern recognition. Reading together with a child also nurtures love and brings joy.
Read the ABC News story about the Storytime Pledge.
Make the pledge this holiday season to pick up a book and share it with a special child in your life, and tweet it using the hashtag #StorytimePledge.
Whether you borrow a book from the library, buy one from a book store, or pull out an old childhood favourite from your own collection, spend some quality time reading to a young person.
Ipswich Libraries are also giving everyone of all ages a chance to flex their reading muscles with our own reading challenges. We have the Summer Reading Club for kids from preschool to secondary school age, and adults can join in our Holiday Reading Challenge for the chance to win a range of prizes.
