Another Door Closes….
Ray Manzarek died this week at the age of 74. You may remember him as the uniquely talented keyboard player from The Doors. Ray was co-founder of the band with Jim Morrison, whom he outlived by 41 years! They really only had 7 productive years but their musical catalogue is still alive and well and making money. Their band years were wild and colourful and make for interesting reading.
With Jim as front man their live performances were legendary and can still be enjoyed on DVD. Ipswich Libraries also holds 4 albums on CD including the classic “Morrison Hotel”. All are available for loan.
Another aging rocker is gone but Ray and The Doors leave a wonderful, and in many ways timeless, legacy.

Reading Circle – 9 May

The Reading Circle participants had another enjoyable session when they met at Ipswich Library, on the morning of Thursday 9th May. Talking about their latest reads, and why they would recommend them, their enthusiasm was infectious as others in the group took notes on titles and authors they might be sampling in turn.
The Reading Circle started in February this year as a flexible alternative to book clubs, and has attracted regulars who enjoy “talking books” with others. The Reading Circle meets on Level 2 every second Thursday of the month between 10am and 11am, and every last Wednesday of the month between 6pm and 7pm. If you think this could be for you, our next evening session is on 29th May and the next morning session is on 13th June.
Just bring your book of choice to talk about and share, and discover new titles and authors that others have enjoyed. Refreshments are provided. So book in to join a session, or just walk in!
