Funds Raised

Monies raised by FOILS activities and events are used to fund further activities and projects and purchase resources that benefit the library and the community.

In past years, the Friends group has been responsible for funding the following:

  • The Books for Babies project: an early literacy initiative of FOILS, run in collaboration with Ipswich hospitals. All babies born during the month of August are presented with a gift bag containing a board book, an It’s Rhyme Time book and DVD, library information and literacy information. (August 2007 onwards)
  • Printed library bags and It’s Rhyme Time book and DVD sets presented to participants who complete the Library’s Baby Rhyme Time program (July 2011 onwards)
  • $200 spent on resources for the Books, Blocks and Bubs Circle
  • $1730 spent on 9 book club sets (ten books in each set) for use by an increasing number of Book Clubs in the area. (2012)
  • $1091 spent on 5 book club sets (ten books in each set) for use by local Book Clubs. (2010)
  • $1850 for the purchase of five life-like baby dolls and two nursery rhyme rugs for use in the Library’s Baby Rhyme Time program, an early literacy program aimed at children from birth to 18 months. (2009)
  • $2269 worth of slatted display boards purchased from the Redbank Plains Library. (2009)
  • $650 donation as full registration for one African Librarian ($650), to attend the 73rd International Federation of Library Associations’ (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress held in Durban, South Africa. (2007)
  • $5,300 to purchase stylish slatted display boards for the Redbank Plaza and Redbank Plains Library branches, and new signage equipment for Ipswich Library. (2007)
