Monies raised by FOILS activities and events are used to fund further activities and projects and purchase resources that benefit the library and the community.
Some of the things that the Friends group has been responsible for funding include:
- The Books for Babies project: an early literacy initiative of FOILS, run in collaboration with Ipswich hospitals. All babies born in Ipswich hospitals are presented with a gift bag containing a board book, an It’s Rhyme Time book and DVD, library information and literacy information. (August 2007 onwards)
- Printed library bags and It’s Rhyme Time book and DVD sets presented to participants who complete the Library’s Baby Rhyme Time program (July 2011 onwards)
- $1850 for the purchase of five life-like baby dolls and two nursery rhyme rugs for use in the Library’s Baby Rhyme Time program, an early literacy program aimed at children from birth to 18 months. (2009)
- $650 donation as full registration for one African Librarian ($650), to attend the 73rd International Federation of Library Associations’ (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress held in Durban, South Africa. (2007)
