Newspapers & Magazines

Our library's magazine collection covers an extensive range of subjects improved by public suggestion. This includes Australian, American and British titles. Besides the local newspapers, we also receive the major interstate titles. Back issues of magazines and newspapers are kept according to frequency, demand and information value.

Community Languages

The Community Language collection is designed to meet the needs of people wishing to read a language other than English. This collection includes fiction and non-fiction material for adults and children.

If you cannot locate the language you are interested in, please notify Library staff. Books in approximately 50 languages are currently available to public libraries through the State Library's Public Libraries Service. View the list of languages available. A small quantity of large print and taped books is also available in a few languages.

Picture books are available in bilingual format in a number of languages such as Spanish and Japanese.

Adult Literacy Resources

The collection contains resources for English speakers and for learners of English as a second language. The collection includes:

  • teaching theory and practice books
  • student workbooks on grammar, spelling and comprehension
  • audio book kits
  • People Learn Productions kits (books with accompanying audio books at slow speed narration)
  • numeracy resources
  • novels, short stories, poems and plays at graded reading levels
  • videos such as the 'English have a go' series
